Music and Art
Wesleyan Christian Academy has a history of a solid music program and has received numerous awards. In the 2010-2011 school year, WCA introduced a brand new art program.
Early Learning Students
Music - Students learn basic pitch matching and rhythm skills, singing and listening skills, early music fundamentals and begin to develop a sense of meter. Students perform in both Christmas Program and Spring Concert.
Learning Center B
Music - Students continue building on the foundation of Early Learning Music and further develop pitch matching and ear training. They delve a little deeper into the basic music fundamentals, and expose the students to the theory side of music through sight singing and simple composition. Music history and appreciation are also introduced at this level.Drama is introduced at this level with participation in the Christmas Drama. Students also take part in the Spring Concert.
Learning Center C
Music - Students at this level continue developing singing skills, and are further exposed to reading printed music and part singing. Students get exposure to printed music in preparation for Junior and Senior High. We also incorporate some Music History, Literature and Appreciation, exposing the students to a variety of music genres.Students at this level also participate in the Christmas Drama and Spring Program.
Art - The structural foundation for the art program is built around the elements of art: line, shape, color, texture, space, form and pattern. As students progress through the program, they learn about the 7 building blocks (elements) of visual art. Not only do they learn about art but they apply their knowledge to their lesson exercise each week. Some lessons are devoted to the development of imagination and creative expression. Other lessons build skills, enrich sensory perception, and develop artistic techniques.
Junior High
Music - Upon reaching Junior High, the focus of the music program narrows somewhat and students are placed in either choir or band (or sometimes both). “General” music classes are not offered at this level.

High School
Music - High school students are invited to audition for High School Choir. Our goal is to have the students reading and singing parts before this time so the transition will be smoother and more effective. High School Choir offers opportunity for performance through the Christmas and Spring Concerts and competition at the International Student Convention each May. Our high light of the year is the Easter Program presented the Wednesday evening of Passion Week.
Bands
Our band program currently consists of four bands and students may start on an instrument when they have reached the age of 10 by the opening day of school. They progress through Beginning, Cadet, and Intermediate Bands, again with the goal being High School Band. Our goal is to have every student start an instrument and enjoy this aspect of music education. Everyone may not be a gifted singer, but most people can learn to play an instrument! The students are offered opportunities for performance through the Christmas and Spring Concerts and as other venues are offered.
